I'm Not Selling Anything, I Just Like to Write

I recently read the New York Times article about mom bloggers. The article talks about the fact that mom blogging has become more about making money rather than sharing experiences in motherhood.

For my part, I love to write. It excites me to connect with other moms, share stories and experiences.

If I happen to find a product that I feel other people could use or benefit from, I'll let people know. But the central reason I'm here is that I love to write. If other people read what I have to say, that's great!

I believe this article short changes the women out there who are still genuinely reaching out to one another and sharing motherhood experiences. I know it's hard to believe, in this consumerist-based society, but not everyone is selling something.

Now, if you ARE selling something, I have nothing against you (in fact, I admire that kind of entrepreneurship) I'm just not.

For all you moms out there who are sharing your motherhood experiences please continue to do so!

  1. I'm with you on that one. :) I'm not out there to make a pile of money, or get freebies, I just like to write too. Sure some of the perks are nice because eventually I'd love to write full time, but my first love it just writing. :)
And community. Beyond that, it's gravy.

  2. I couldn't agree with you more!

For some of us, writing is just a cathartic release that helps us to make more sense of life. And the fact that we're "moms" shouldn't mean that we can't take advantage of the cool new methods of "thought-sharing" that modern technology provides. Not everyone likes to write. Most of my friends don't. But thank God some women do! I LOVE being able to read what another mom is thinking, somewhere on the other side of the country (or the world) and to see that her thoughts and experiences are so similar to my own. It just makes me feel happier. :)

Thank you for expressing my sentiments exactly!

  3. Man, I feel bad cause I was like "selling" my cookies. I think that ship has sailed. It was fun but who am I kidding? I kinda feel like a moron after reading this LOL!

  4. Amanda- Your cookies are amazing, and if I could bake like that, I would totally sell them! Selling stuff is not "bad" I just think this article misrepresented what mom blogging "is." You should continue to sell your cookies because they are awesome. But that's also not all that you stand for. You are a talented writer and an amazing woman and mother!

Scattered Mom- Thanks lady! I love your blog too! I would love to make money writing eventually, but you're right: that's just gravy!

Kate- I'm so glad you feel the same way! I agree with you, we can learn from one another by reading anecdotes and experiences!
