Thought of The Day: Coffee = Oxygen Mask

You know what they tell you on an airplane?

"Put your oxygen mask on yourself, before assisting others?"

Well, this is how I feel about my morning cup of coffee. It is my oxygen mask. Before that cup, I am useless to others.

There is nothing like that morning cup of coffee!

And the first sip...oh yeah!

After my morning essential elixir, I feel ready to face the day!

Java Love...At 18 Months

My love affair with coffee began in May 2008 when my son was born. That steaming cup in the morning makes me feel more like a human being than a blob of incoherency. Recently, my son started to take notice of my dear friend, the coffee mug, and his curiosity got the best of him.

**Fortunately, the above is just a reenactment of what actually occurred. I placed an empty mug on the coffee table and he went for the mug. This was done to demonstrate how much he is interested in coffee.

One day, when I was in a morning haze, I placed my coffee mug on the coffee table distractedly. I look over and found my son had grabbed the mug and was in the process of taking a giant gulp of my prized beverage; I was horrified.

One would think after this experience it would be best to keep an eye on one's coffee mug more closely. But no, regretfully I report that the very next day he got to the coffee mug again.

Since these incidents, I no longer keep my coffee mug on the coffee table. It is hidden in an abstract corner of the room away from little hand's grasp.

For the Love of Coffee

Well folks, it's been a year. My son is turning one tomorrow and I am getting nostalgic. Many things have helped me survive throughout this year; my boyfriend, my incredibly supportive friends and family, even my cats and one more crucial thing...coffee.

Coffee, I love you very much. You got me through a very hard transition in my life; from bachelorette to mother. You are a loyal friend. When my son was waking up every three hours on the dot, you were there to help me survive.

You were there during the summer in your iced form. You were there during the winter season in your standard heated variety. But the most important thing is that you stayed true to me. You never let me down.

When I thought I might collapse from exhaustion and emotional upheaval you lifted me up and gave me the necessary energy to cope with my problems.

I want everyone to know, that you are safe to drink (in moderation) while breastfeeding

And thank goodness for that.

Thank you coffee. You are this mom's best friend.
