Damn I'm Old!

I was washing dishes this morning, and the only way I can seem to do household chores is if I'm blasting music at an unreasonably high decibel level. So there I was, deafening my entire family and the neighbors while cleaning the kitchen, when it occurred to me that I'm old.

I haven't been to a show/concert in forever. Also, the kind of music I really like is pop punk which, if I even could make it out of the house and to a show, is a favorite of people ten or more years younger than me. It would be kind of awkward to be rocking out with kids that I could have potentially substitute taught.

How did I get so old? I mean, I'm not that old, I'm only 31, but I find myself using expressions like:

"I'm really disappointed in you."
"Don't talk with your mouth full!" and
"For crying out loud."

I've also developed the inability to operate cutting edge electronic equipment such as the Xbox, Play Station 3, and Blu-ray. Every time Wil plays a movie for Ari on these systems, I have to ask him to turn it on and off because I can't figure out how to do it myself. This reminds me of the teachers I used to make fun of who were unable to operate a simple VCR in the classroom.

Before I know it, I'll be going through menopause! It's insane. I feel like only yesterday I was just entering high school. What happened? I guess I grew up! As a child, I was so terrified of growing up and becoming an adult and all of sudden, it happened! BAM! I have a fiance and two kids. Whoa. I need to take a breath here.

Is anyone else out there mourning their youth?

  2. Dude, imagine me at a concert, ok? It's definitely awkward, but I go anyway. Whatevs. When I used to go to shows in high school all the time, there were ALWAYS older people there, like grey-haired people. I don't think anyone cares. Also, you look totally young and I'm not just saying that.

  3. *sigh* yesss...in fact, one of my friends from school just posted on FB that he wanted to go back to high school as the fun person that he is now...I totally agreed with him. We were both horribly shy in school and the peeps who know us now (at 34) totally don't believe us.

And just the other day, in the middle of a rant against my family and their lack of ability to pick up after themselves, that little voice in my head said, "You sound like Mama!!" OMG, I was devastated...

  4. Yes! I feel old all the time. Doesn't help that a lot of the wives around here are about 9-10 years younger than me...lol

  5. Oh, YES. Sometimes it just catches me off guard. When was the last time I went to a concert? Can't remember. When was the last time I went dancing? Who knows? When was teh last time anyone made a pass at me? AGES ago. Oh, and I have WAY more grey hairs than a 31-year-old should. But I could still rock out. If I felt like it. (And if I wasn't so darn tired, for crying out loud!) :)

  7. You're not old because if you are then I am too. And I won't admit it. I am worse than you about music though. I hear these new artists names and I say, who's that? I never thought I would be that clueless. Oh well. I can still rock.

  9. Yesterday the words "What do you live in? A barn?" came tumbling out of my mouth in response to kids running up the stairs. True story.

Don't worry you're not old until you hear your music on an oldies station....ohh....wait...:)
