Wouldn't It Be Nice?

There are a lot of things that would be nice right now. A vacation by the beach, having more money, a manicure/ pedicure...I could go on and on.

I cannot believe I am saying this, but I would abandon those fantasies for one simple wish: I would love for Ari to be potty trained.

When this baby arrives in the winter, I hope that I am only changing one and not two.

Help me out people! How can I accomplish this feat?

  1. Well, I am by no means an expert, but we are early potty training Gunne. Right now, he sits on the potty twice a day. It was once, but he asked to do it again, so we stepped it up. We also tell him what he's doing when we catch him - "You're peeing honey! You're peeing right now" etc.
In about two more months, we'll take away his diaper and keep in off the furniture. When he pees himself, we'll tell him what he did and then sit him on the potty.
From what I've read, eventually they start making motions before they go, and you rush them there, and eventually they ask for it.
No idea if it actually works, but that's what we're doing!

  2. That sounds great! You are making him aware of his behavior and rewarding him when he pees or poops! Keep me posted!

  3. I think if you start to early they can regress, so in my opinion its best until they show they are ready! Its not worth having them trained for a month and then they start wetting themselves again. I'm not stressing about having to change two. It won't be for long.

  5. UH! This is so frustrating for me. My boys take forever. I see other kids just get it at age 2 and mine just take forever.

To be honest changing 2 wasn't the end of the world for me. I am still hoping my 2nd son gets it by the time this baby is born though. There is a bigger age difference this time though.

  6. Julie, that is good to hear that changing two wasn't that bad. I just hope he gets it. He seems to be showing signs of readiness!

  8. This mom at pre school swears by a three day method. It worked for her two and a half year old daughter.

  10. i had a 2yr old in diapers and a newborn and it was not too bad. except for the cost. now that my older son is toilet trained, it is a little tricker because you have to find bathrooms all over the city, whereas before you can just concentrate on getting out the door with the new baby and cranky toddler, knowing that at least he can just pee in his diaper. now, he has peed in too many parking lots for me to count..in fact it is getting problematic, he really likes to pee outside but i think an ottawa winter with 2-5 ft of snow and snowpants everytime you leave the house for 3 months will change that. anyway, we waited until 2y and 9m and he got it in 2 days. it was actually pretty easy. we had tried before, when he was closer to 2y and it was just not happening at all. i say dont rush it and it will happen when he is ready. and rushing it before the baby is born might be worse, because he might rebel when the baby comes.

  11. Hmmm...maybe I should wait a little longer. He's still young. Thanks so much Sara!
