With This Ring I Thee Wed

You thought I was getting married, didn't you? Fooled you! It's not me who is tying the knot, but rather my best friend of 17 years, Mint.

Isn't her sample wedding make-up lovely?

Mint and Mike are getting married in mid-October and I will be her maid of honor.

But even more exciting is that Ari is going to be the ring bearer! We sat down with him to talk about the wedding.

So far his thoughts about the wedding are as follows:
  • He believed that the wedding was "at grandpa's house."
  • We corrected him and told him that it would be at a library. He asked "With Nelson?" Nelson is his best friend who he goes to the library with sometimes.
  • We explained to him it was like a big party he said "OH! Cake!"
  • We told him who would be at the party and he asked if Simon and Egreck (his cats) and Lucky (my brother's dog) would be there. We replied "No animals will be allowed at the wedding." He said "OH! Boys and cake!" His word for "people" is "boys."
Mint even brought him some books about his responsibilities.

Mint added some crucial details to one of the books.

I tried to get him interested in the book above by saying that the little boy on the cover was Ari, but he freaked out and said "NO! Ari is here!" and pointed to himself.

He was utterly disinterested in either of the books. So instead, we had him practice carrying Mint's engagement ring on big striped pillow that he's fond of.

He did surprisingly well carrying the ring on the large striped pillow. I think he's excited about his big moment.

  1. When my son was 4, he was the ring-bearer for my brother's wedding and did a great job. But it wasn't a very hot day and the rehearsal was minimal. His older (6) brother walked with him. Now my brother has his own kids so his 4 year old was the ring-bearer for our nephew. Very hot day and they'd been there for 2 days, including a long rehearsal. So it was a disaster. He started crying and had to be taken away. Poor kid was overhot, over tired and over stimulated. I think Ari will do a great job, especially if Mommy is in eyesight!
    Congrats to M & M!

  2. Thanks Alexandra! I will make sure to be in sight, and have Wil walk with him! You bring up great points, though. I have to make sure he naps before the ceremony and that he is not overheated. It should be a nice fall day in October, although with global warming, who knows?

  3. I love weddings. In the past 12 years I've been to ONE. Read that, ONE WEDDING (well, other than mine and I HATED mine). Someone I know needs to get married! Ari will be an awesome ring bearer! My sister was a flower girl when she was like 3 and she did pretty good with my 8 year old brother walking with her.

  4. Oh nice! That's good to know about your sister! The last wedding I went to was my friend Lisa's. It was fun. Ari came and ate chicken fingers and fries. Well, mostly just the fries. Why did you hate your wedding?

  5. Clicked over from DC Urban Dad. You have a really cute son. I hope the wedding goes great. Our son will be a ring bearer in a wedding next year. That will be crazy I am sure.

  7. Very cute. Visiting from Strocel.com. I wonder if my kids will ever be flower girls. I always wished I could have been in someone's wedding. As a kid it seemed like a real important thing to be asked and I grew up feeling hurt that no one asked me. Although I guess not many people my parents knew got married when I was little. Oh well. So fr my girls are oblivious to things like weddings, so hopefully they never grow up worrying about things like that.

  8. Melodie- I love Amber's blog! That would be great if your girls could be flower girls. When I was little I idealized weddings. They seemed fairy tale-esque.
