and then I had kids!
Before I had kids, I owned a 2003 Ford Focus in midnight blue. I'd wake up one morning, and feel like going to the beach. I wouldn't think twice about it, off I'd drive to Long Beach!
Now, I wake up in the morning and I feel like going to the beach. I ask Ari if he wants to go to the beach.
"Yes!" He says enthusiastically.
But then he refuses to put his pants on.
As much as I love to be spontaneous, these days I tend to do it with pants on.
With kids, things require planning. Here's what I think of planning:
I just want to grab my bag and go. I don't want to think about diapers, wipes, water, food, toys. Okay my brain hurts.
But I wonder, is there a way to maintain spontaneous while having kids?
Discuss!
I've never been spontaneous, so I wouldnt know. But kids sure do come with a lotta crap to lug around!
ReplyDeletewe have friends that are spontaneous with their 4 kids. they just push things like laundry and cleaning (the boring stuff) to the side and do what they want to do. they tend to spend a little more money than if you plan things. (like deciding to go camping while they are at a friends cottage and picking up the tent and groceries in town and staying for a day or two). i couldnt do it but it works for them. the parents often get a babysitter for the kids and run out to see a concert, decided all in 20 minutes. whereas i would have a concert planned for months before going. and then would probably cancel bc one of my kids look like they might come down with a cold.
ReplyDeleteIn still think I can be spontaneous and then I start PACKING ALL THE CRAP, and then Theo has a meltdown ... and we go anyway because DAMMIT ... we're going to have FUN!
