Dude, Does Your Mom Cut Your Hair?

Ari's hair grows incredibly fast. When it gets too long, I turn to Wil to cut it. I'm not particularly good at cutting hair, and we can't afford to pay for a professional hair cut. So when I noticed that my child's hair was starting to resemble a mullet, I begged Wil to work his magic with the scissors. He kept saying he would do it, and just "never got around to it."

Finally, I'd had enough. So I went for it myself.

We visited my friend Cordy today, and she graciously allowed me to shear my son in her bathroom.

Here's how my work turned out:

Yes, it's uneven, and it totally looks like a mom cut it, which I did.

When I returned home, Wil gasped:
"You cut his hair?!"
"Yes, because you kept saying you were going to do it, and you never did!" He replied.

He proceeded to whip out his scissors to "fix" my work.

Are you brave enough to cut your kid's hair or do you take them to have it done elsewhere?

  1. I used to cut my mom's and grandmother's hair quite often. I cut Yasir's (not hard, just a buzz) and I cut my own. Yasir has cut mine before too. He's ok. I think I will probably cut T's too, it's so darn expensive to get hair cuts! Boys are worse because they need it more frequently. You didn't do too bad on the sides and back. The front? Ehhhhh. Lol.

  2. I'm not even gonna front, it looks terrible. I told Wil not to defy me! He should have cut it! It would have looked much better.

  3. I cut Mike's hair most of the time. Bless his heart for trusting me with it. Grace on the other hand was completely bald at birth and it still had't reached an inch long by her second birthday. For this reason she has never had a professional cut. However, she does have this section in the front were the bangs would be if she had them. It grows a million times faster than the rest of her hair, it's like a rat-tail except it's in the front. I trim that once a month or so. Once her hair has grown a bit (ok a LOT)I will most likely take her to get it done.
Look into cosmotology schools. The local school here offers children's haircuts for right around 5 dollars and the students get the much needed practice of dealing with a wiggly child.

  4. Oh and P.S. Don't worry to much about his hair, it will grow back before you know it. Besides, how many pictures did your mom take of you with horrible hair. We all have them, my mom gave me a perm when I was in 3rd grade. It looked like a really curly mullet... a la A.C. Slater from Saved by the bell. Horrible!

  6. I never cut the girls hair. So how did Wil (and everyone else on here) learn to cut hair!? I tried to do Chaim's once and I almost killed him. lol.

  7. I've tried to buzz Wil's hair before, and it came out totally busted looking.

Some people have more patience than others I suppose. Plus, I'm sure there is a learning curve.

  11. I couldn't do it, but it does irritate me that they charge the same to cut my sons hair as they do mine. It only takes them a couple minutes. I have tried to get my wife to cut my hair though. Clippers is all I need. She doesn't agree to that.

  12. It's ridiculous how much they charge for kid's hair cuts. They are half the size of adults, come on! That should mean a discount! Also, a lot of babies/toddlers have very little hair. Ari doesn't, but that's not everyone.
