The 6am Argument

Wil and I frequently get into stupid fights about nothing. This morning at 6am Texas time, Ari spontaneously woke up (after we'd both gone to sleep at 1am) and so began the 6am argument.

I made Ari a bagel with peanut butter, and he proceeded to smear peanut butter all over my "sister-in-law's" bed. I pointed this out to Wil and he said:

"Then clean it up! This is not our house!"
"Don't talk to me like that!" I snapped back.
"Maybe I should cut my vocal cords out, because you never like how I talk to you!"

And then, everything went crazy. The last thing I said (before I fled the bedroom) was:
"I want to go home!"

I ended up locking myself in the bathroom and crying because I am a huge drama queen.
He said sorry a million times, but I kept telling him that he didn't mean it and called him all sorts of horrible names.

Then I made myself some coffee and dragged Ari and Ari's grandpa to the playground with me to get away from the 6am argument.

Eventually, I decided to forgive Wil, because I'm too tired to care anymore.

Now I wanna know, what's the stupidest argument you've ever had?

  1. I sure as hell remember after the 2nd kid was born and still a baby, the wife and I would be at each other's throats at 5 a.m., literally ready to take it outside for a fist fight.

As for the stupidist fight? I can't remember so, I think I'll go start one with the wife about how I think the way she blinks is affecting our kids' health.

  2. this is awesome! you guys sound like you have the same relationship that I have.

  3. Wow, I have no idea what our worst fight was. I remember once I threw an empty milk carton at Yasir and he acted like I threw a hammer at him, and whined and complained for like 3 days. That was 4 years ago, when we were newlyweds. I can't remember why I threw the milk carton at him, but I'm sure it was over something stupid - I'm thinking it was the NIGHT SHIFT!

  4. WhyIsDaddyCryin - It's so nice to know I'm not alone on this one!

Dana- Thank you! Oy! Glad you feel my pain: )

Amanda - I'm dying to know more about the milk carton fight!

  5. There is no such thing as a stupid argument in our house. It's been established from the very beginning - I am right and he is sorry.

  6. Daiva, clearly you have the best household rules!

  7. Fatigue brings out the crazy in all of us. That and hunger. Anyway, lol!

  8. My boyfriend and I have these same arguments. In the past, we let them escalate into major arguments (we are both very stubborn). It took a lot of time and understanding, but we were able to establish a rule for morning time. Neither of us pays any attention to what the other says until we are fully ready for the day ahead of us. If at that time the issue is still bothering us, we try our best to discuss it reasonably.

P.S. I am still trying to work my way through your archives. February 2010 was a busy month for you! Lol. You and a few other mommy bloggers have inspired me to start my own. Thank you!

  9. Hello there Mental Mom! Thanks so much! My boyfriend and I are both really stubborn too.
Wow! I have to look at February and see how busy I was.

Glad you started a blog! I really like it, as it gives me a place to write.

I'm checking yours out right now.

  10. mine were all pretty bad, thus the title Jessica the divorcee

  11. Oooh Oooh I've got one! Mr. D and I just spent the whole holiday weekend ignoring each other because of a disagreement over the 'how we met story.'

I'd tell you all about it, but I'm worried that he'll stumble across this and the next fight will be over "why we ignored each other over Labor Day weekend."

  12. Oh yeah! We've had that exact fight, I believe! I hate it when the fight results in ignoring the other person. I say this because it describes every single fight Wil and I have had!
