Beware the Trolls

There are some creatures that live on the Internet. They only come out when there is something negative that they would like to share. They are called trolls. Now when I think of trolls, I immediately envision this toy from my childhood:

They are silly and have neon hair. They're also called trolls.

The trolls that live on Internet don't look like this. But wouldn't it be awesome if they did?

So if you come on my blog and leave me a nasty comment, I'm just going to reply with this:

Have a wonderful day!

  2. Great post! Seems like those who were really upset about the asshole terms totally missed the actual point of the article. They must be their own worst critics....

  4. I personally love the use of the word "asshole". I feel it perfectly expresses the frustration of raising children. In general and specifically when they're pulling their siblings' hair and screaming in their face because they want to stand on the left of their mommy. It is absolutely appropriate and accurate to refer to this type of behavior as asshole behavior. And it's totally fine to completely love children and to also acknowledge the truth of their behavior. If we didn't acknowledge it, how would we deal with it? We'd probably either suppress it with extreme and unhealthy control measures, or pretend it isn't happening and neglect the behavior. Yes children are innocent. Yes they're sweet and lovely. They're also violent psychopaths until you introduce them to social rules and conventions. That introduction happens slowly over time, and with a great deal of stubborn resistance from the children. So, as wonderful as they absolutely are otherwise, they are intense assholes sometimes. As parents, that is truthfully what we're dealing with. For anybody who has never had to deal with that, thank your lucky stars. Because for the rest of us, that's reality. That's humanity.

  7. I agree. You are a wonderful mother. I think the core issue is people or rather many parents attempt to detach themselves from their humanity in this never ending quest for parental perfection. God forbid we harbor bad feelings towards our children or secretly wish that they would just shut the hell up. It's when we deny those feelings that we loose our sanity!

  10. Don't feel bad. I got lambasted on Facebook by real world "friends" for saying I thought an article about how we should love our post-mommy bodies was bullshit. I want my pre-baby body back and it isn't a badge of honor for me that my body made that baby. I'd rather have my husband look at me the way he did before I had kids some days and if I'd known I'd never look good again I might have reconsidered. Oh boy. You would have thought I said I was going to put my kids out by the side of the road. I adore my kids but there's no doubting the fact that having them forever ruined my self-esteem regarding my appearance which does matter when it comes to your relationship with your partner. I digress. You're entitled to your opinions, feelings, and right to use profanity in describing those feelings.
