15 Becomes 32

Yesterday, Ari, Samara and I hung out with my friend Andrea.

She was visiting from London, because we're grownups now and we can live in places like London. Andrea and I have been friends since we were 15 years old. We are now 32, and 31 years-old respectively. She actually just turned 31 on November 24th. It seems like only yesterday we were 15.

We do not want to be in our thirties, but we are.

I have vivid memories of Andrea and I dancing to Madonna's Immaculate Collection in my room. Here's my old room in case your interested.

I drew/painted that mural myself. Andrea is now an Art Director, by the way. She's always been an amazingly talented artist. Here is some of her earlier work:

Andrea and I used to use bus passes to travel around the city.

I remember her dad, Julio, teaching us how to drive on the cobblestone roads of Vermont when we were 14.

It's crazy to me that I'm 32 years old. In my mind, some parts of me still feel 15, or 19, sometimes 25, but never 32. I feel like in the blink of an eye I went from being a child to an adult. Sometimes the process seemed elongated, but thinking back on my life, I can't believe I'm a bonafide adult.

So Andrea, here's to bus passes, Ray Bari Pizza, hanging out at playgrounds when we were the oldest people there, and being 15 again. I love you girl!

Do you feel your age? Tell me about it!

  1. I definitely don't feel my "age"...and sometimes being a mom and wife totally makes me go dawhat!? Wasn't I just playing in puddles in my 101 Dalmations rain boots???

  2. It's so weird, right? I feel like I was just playing on the playground, or in high school or even college. I can't believe I'm married and have two kids.

  3. I actually feel older than I am because nobody from my childhood has kids yet, so I'm like the "old" lady. All of my new friends here are at least 30, with the exception of one person. Boo to feeling old. How can I feel young again? Hell, I'm only 25 for crying out loud.

  4. I want to do "young things." But it's hard with kids. I just want to go to the movies with friends without having to change a diaper.

  5. I feel younger too. And no one believes me when I say I am almost 33 but I guess that is a good thing...lol I saw a girl walking with a "Class of 2014" shirt on and freaked out a bit. I started high school in 1994.

  6. I definitely don't feel 32. Maybe 27 at the most. But usually either 19 or 25.

  7. Sarah!!! I just found this now! This is fantastic, it brought back so many memories... Remember when you dared me to serenade Roy with Dreamlover by Mariah Carey? Remember those times we stayed at Horst's place in Vermont playing poker and eating black beans and rice? Those bus cards are ridiculous, I can't believe you still have one.

It's funny, I find that I have become less sure of myself...the older I get, the more I realise what I don't know. I wish to have a little of that youthful cockiness back. And I could do without the grey hairs I'm starting to find.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane Sarah. Love you too babe. Miss you lots.

  8. Sorry, just want to clarify that it's me, Andrea and not my mother, Christine. I set up a blog for her some time back and for some reason it changed my google account name to hers. Didn't mean to freak you out, though I wouldn't put it past her to stalk me and my friends. Er.. Love you mom!
